Moon Madness on the Mountain!
As with all rare and exquisite creatures, when you get word of a She-siting, you know you want to be there when it appears!
And this one's going to be as perfect as the Harvest Moon itself. Yep, the She's will be howling at the full moon from atop beautiful Mt. Sequoyah, Saturday, September 10, starting at 7:00. And because you know we never do anything halfway, we've worked up a very special Moon Medley that we'll kick in just about the time that gorgeous moon is rising!
If you haven't been up on the Mountain, it's an outdoor venue, where you can bring your lawn chairs, blankets, wine and picnic basket and kick back after a long, hot summer.
Tickets are $12. Just scan the QR code below.
See you in September...when the the moon shines over the mountain!

Have you missed us?
Here is is, July of 2022. Like everyone else, the She's have been dancing around Covid and slowly emerging from whatever it was that we were in the past few years.

But now, we're tickled to have a couple of primo gigs coming up. And we've got you covered, whether you live in Fayetteville or all the way up to Bentonville. We know you're craving a She-fix, so read on for the August opportunity. The September opportunity will follow soon, we promise!
Being She's, as we are, we are proud and honored to play for a fundraiser, sponsored by Progressive Women of Arkansas, or PAWPAC, on August 6, 6-8, in support of 5 fabulous women running for office up in Benton County. Below you'll see the flyer, with a QR code. Frame that QR square in your phone's camera and a link will pop up, where you can buy tickets. When you buy a ticket, the location (close to downtown Bentonville) will be sent to you. Space is limited, so don't delay!
Tickets are $20. All proceeds will be split between the candidates. Our donation is our performance - we believe in these other She's that strongly!
If you've heard our powerful closing anthem, "She Will Sing Us Home", you know we're all for more She-power everywhere. Come join us for a great concert and a great party!

How Much Sheesy-ness can NPR handle? (part 2)

Changing the World, one Floozy at a Time
This week, NPR asked people who have submitted performances to their 2021 Tiny Desk Contest to send in our "stories". Of course, the She's never miss a chance to tell our story, especially about Susie! Here's what we sent:
Tart. Hussy. Jezebel.
Floozy.
People sure have a lot of words to describe women they think are having too much fun.
At a dinner party for our band, She’s Us, the band members (aka “The She’s”) pondered this sociological fact as our spouses and partners (aka “The He’s”) judiciously decamped to another room. With considerable laughter - and perhaps a few glasses of wine - we explored vocabulary that reflects the strictures placed on women through the ages.
There have been – and still are – a lot of “guidelines” for being an acceptable female in society. Above all, don’t enjoy living in your body and expressing your best and greatest self.
The group decided “floozy” was our favorite word- the most delightful-sounding label for all those publicly vilified (but secretly liberated?) women. I went home inspired, and by the time of our next practice two days later, “Susie was a Floozy” was fully formed. “Susie” is a musical celebration of all women who live life to the fullest. The lyrics deliberately play against expectation and stereotype, and the music is irresistibly swingy. Labelled early on as a “run around” in her small Arkansas town, Susie liked to party, liked her friends, earned an MBA and started a charity. She loved a number of men, left only admirers in her wake, found a great guy to settle down with, and lived happily ever after. It would never occur to Susie to apologize for anything. We love Susie and all she represents.
We almost always use Susie to open our first set. We’ve been surprised, and moved, by the enthusiastic audience responses. Women listeners of all ages can attest to the effort it can take to be our truest female selves in a judgmental world. Listeners often spontaneously stand up and start dancing, and more than once we’ve heard one fervently exclaim, “I want to be a floozy, too!”

How Much Sheesy-ness can NPR handle?
The She's decided to throw their boas into the ring, and enter NPR's Tiny Desk Contest, which invites aspiring musicians to submit performance of an original song from an intimate setting that has to include some form of desk. Will we be the big winners and get a trip to NPR in Washington, D. C.? Who knows? What we can say for sure is that those folks have never encountered a group like Us!
Of course, we chose our toe-tapping show opener, Susie was a Floozy. Should it be a winner? You be the judge!
And don't forget, you can hear Susie LIVE - along with lots of our other great songs - on JULY 25, when we'll be playing the Fayetteville Library Mountain Stage Series!

Arkansas Arts Council program to feature She's Us!
Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at 3:30 p.m., the She's will be among the featured guests on the web program Art on Arkansas, sponsored by the Arkansas Arts Council.
As part of the celebration of Women's History Month, Art on Arkansas has chosen eight outstanding women in the arts from throughout the state to interview, and the She's are tickled to death to have been collectively selected! We can't wait to chat with host Drekkia Morning, and share our inspiration, humor, and a sample of our one-of-a-kind musical style.
Don't miss it!

Betcha can't keep a straight face watching this
It's one thing to make great music together. (Hint: We DO.)
It's a wholly different thing to make each other laugh. In the video below, the She's once again prove that no band has more fun together. Even though we've been confined to Zoom for a year, the magic hasn't faded a lick. And we finally captured that magic, like lightning in a bottle, in this little gem we call our "Master Class in Wordcraft".
If you watch closely, you will track the quick slide from focus on the task to spontaneous free-association chaos.
This is how we roll.
Medical advisory: If you are able to watch this without even breaking a smile, please contact us. Help is available.

The SHE'S are looking forward to our first HOUSE CONCERT of the new decade. We've had some great gigs lately, but house concerts really let us cut loose and share our full "sheesy-ness"! We'll be offering up a ton of our cool originals, with a few favorite covers for good measure.
House concerts are a terrific opportunity to hear great music in a fun, relaxed environment. And it's particularly suited for our thoughtful, witty lyrics, and close harmonies. We love the opportunity to engage with our audience.
If you haven't been to a house concert before, they are a cross between concert and potluck party. Feel free to bring your own beverage - or contributions to the shared munchies.
ALL are welcome. Reservations are strongly suggested - we expect this one is going to be sold out!
Contact: [email protected]. or call 832.496.7835 to ensure your spot today!
Suggested $15 at the door. But whether you have a dime in your pocket or not, we want to see your smiling face!

Must See SHE-TV Coming Soon!
Right before Christmas, the She's were in the studio at Fayetteville Public TV, recording an hour of our greatest hits. You can see from the pics below, we were primed for a good time. We'll be posting video here and on Facebook soon - stay tuned!
Inside Dog
Jude's ode to her beloved dog Ringo is a lot bouncier than Ringo is!
"...others may like it hot, but this dog does not!"
We channel the Monkees just a bit on this one, and love singing about one of our favorite canine fans - named for a musician, of course!

Tracking the She's:
If you find yourself wondering, "what are the She's doing lately?", well, the answer is: we all live busy lives!
When we're not laughing and supporting each other in our weekly rehearsals, we are, like all our sisters, helping keep the world turning. This fall we are collectively experiencing the building of a new home, new grand babies, dying pets, a professional conference, travel, supporting our favorite candidates and our community, our "real world" of friends and family, and oh, yeah, a couple of us have real jobs, too.
Every week we come together to talk about the State of Things, laugh and/or cry together, and put our hearts and voices into the music we love, the music that lifts us up and expands our souls.
And whenever the timing's right, we emerge to share all that with our fans and friends.
There's no one quite like us out there, folks. Come hear us when you can. You'll walk away feeling better than when you came, we guarantee!

SHE NEWS - Fall 2019
It's Fall in Arkansas, and we're back with a busy season that will carry us through into the New Year. See the "SHOWS" section below for the particulars.
Spanish Bay House Concerts is sponsoring our FOURTH house concert Saturday, November 9. We've got some great new material. We're getting Bigger, Bolder, Better and Funnier all the time- you won't want to miss a great set in a great venue.
Next, we'll be back at Terra Studios on Sunday, December 8, 1-4. No cover, and it's the perfect time and place to find a Christmas gift for that hard-to-please person on your list. Bring the kids, too, and let them explore the delightfully quirky and beautiful grounds.
What else is up? We're in the studio working on several song tracks - thanks to our friend, and honorary "She" - Bob Thomas. Our creative juices keep flowing, so we're likely to have new material every time you come hear us as well as you're old favorites.
We're going into the television studio at FPTV on November 30th to record a one hour She-Show to be aired later on Public Television. This should be a whole lot of fun with a costumes, props, and a wide range of music styles - mostly originals by members of the band.
And check out the amazing photography below and throughout this website by Brenda Yelvington, outstanding photographer and documentarian and Friend of the She's.
Wherever we are, we'll be laughing, making sweet harmonies, and always singing from the heart. Come join us!
Meet the She'sWe are four fabulous women musicians from Fayetteville, Arkansas: Cece Box, keyboards; Shawn Frick, guitar; Judy Dunleavy, guitar and percussion, and Judi Neal, bass and guitar. Separately, we each bring decades of performing and songwriting experience to the group. Together, we make harmonies that have been described as heavenly, in musical styles that span (and sometimes even mash up!) folk, jazz, rock, oldies, and show tunes…with a comedic turn from time to time! Through our mostly original sets, we engage our audiences, with plenty of She-Love. We’ll take you on a musical trip that will have you laughing and dancing, and we’ll touch your heart-strings along the way. LISTEN ON ReverbNation > |
